Catching the songthaew!

"Holding on for dear life" Drake-style!

Because our quest to buy a car has yet to come to fruition, our main ways of getting from place to place in Thailand are: 1) catching a ride with friends or 2) catching a songthaew [song-tao].  Simply put, a songthaew serves as a taxi, but instead of  being a small compact car, it is a red or yellow pick-up truck with an extended bed which has a cab built over it.  Most of these vehicles can take about 10-12 people at a time…  If you ever get the opportunity to ride one, I would suggest that you ride on the very back, but hold on for dear life!  — Drake

We should have those in Hawaii – with surf racks on it of course!
