Our school, Grace International (http://www.gisthailand.org), has an annual event called Spiritual Emphasis Week. To top off a week of learning and growing in our faith, about a dozen of us 9th graders did a service project at the brand new School of Promise, a small bilingual Christian school here in Chiang Mai. We boarded songthaews for a short ride to the school at 9 a.m. There, we were warmly greeted by the founders, an American couple, along with their Thai and American teaching staff. At first glance the school looked quite meager. Their mission is to reach the Thai community and share Christian values with the unsaved. Although the school only has 20 kids enrolled in grades K through 5, it is evident that God surely has a “promising” future for them.
After getting our instructions, we split into several groups: the painters, book sorters and movers. My job was to help label, organize and sort books for their new library. Serving the students and staff of the School of Promise was a blessing for us and truly a rewarding and fulfilling experience. I am looking forward to more opportunities to give back to our beloved community here and to be a light to those around us! — Elli
